Thanks for your Kind Help. - I was born in Wheatly Hill and lived there until I was 11 years old. I have many fond memories of my childhood and of Wheatly Hill, especially the Constitutional club trips and Christmas parties at at Pattern Street chapel and the miners welfare.||In recent years I have visited the heritage centre on several occasions adn have always received a warm welcome and enthusiastic interest in the questions I have asked.||Recently a relative of mine Mrs Ruby Robinson sadly passed away and left me some sentimental items that included a gold medallion presented to my great grandfather John Bannister in 1917 by some local organisation. The inscription on the back of the medallion reads "Presented by WHAC 1917". ||Being curious as to what organisation this may have been I contacted Mrs Margaret Hedley to see if any of the history club members could shed some light on the mater. As a result of information received from your club members we have come to the conclusion that the organisation was the Wheatly Hill Ambulance Class and this ties in with stories passed down through the family.||I would therefore like to thank all of you members for their kind help and congratulate you all on the fine work that you do and the organisation you have created.||Many thanks, George Bannister....
