Life on the Limestone

The theme of this years event was the history of our village from before the Romans until present day. This was made possible by our inclusion in the Limestone Landscape project administered by Durham County Council, who supplied a group of archaeologists—The Archaeological Practice to carry out the research. Their findings were presented in a Village Atlas and makes very interesting reading.

In order to make the information accessible to everyone, the History Club commissioned 12 banners outlining a different era of history on each one and these banners formed the basis of our exhibition. The banners were supported by excellent displays by both Rock Farm and Thornley Hall Farm, highlighting their histories and Rent-a-Peasant who provided a display of Roman life.
